Welcome to the first ever Carnival of Islam in the West, a monthly carnival by Muslims largely for Muslims, though not exclusively so. As this is the first outing for this carnival, I will write a little about its history, aims and objectives before presenting the entries.
History
The Carnival of Islam in the West was the creation of Abu Sahajj, an American Muslim who blogs at Wa Salaam. He spent considerable time and effort promoting this carnival and has created a resource page for this carnival. May God reward his efforts and good intentions.
Aims and Objectives
This carnival is, in the first instance, an effort to allow Muslims in the West to express what
life is like for Muslims living in the West. This carnival is meant to be a voice for Muslims in the West, a
significant part of the greater ummah. Because not only do most
Westerners not know what is really going on in the Middle East, but
many do not know that there Muslims in the West. Entries from those who are not Muslims are also welcome.
In fact as we know there is a large and significant population of Muslims in the West. A population of educated and viable Muslims living and raising families on solid and healthy Islamic values in Western societies.
The carnival is a also great way to bring together Muslims and strengthen the ummah from every corner of the world whilst concentrating on the West. The aim is to grow from there, inshaallah.

posted to the Carnival of Brass. should automatically appear in sidebars shortly.
I am greatly excited by the synergy of the real-time carnival concept with traditional carnivals. The more people we can urge to add the realtime carnival to their sidebars, the more exposure that the traditional carnivals will get instantaneously.
