"Let people connect the two (faith and deeds), rather force-feeding it down their throats. "God guides whom He wills". (And note, this is not a call for people abandon da'wah.)"

Good post. Actually, if this is done properly, the act of da'wah would be reinforced instead of abandoned. People see the good works, see who is doing the good works, and then might look at Islam a little more closely, insha'allah, than they might otherwise do. This is one of the things I want to do through my business, to use some of the profits to finance an NGO that can help to solve *community* problems.

I think the major problem is that most of these "leaders" are immigrants. The majority of British Muslims, I believe, are not now immigrants but British born (or at least British bred). We just don't think the same way as our parents because of our upbringing - and we never will because of our differnet experiences.

The vacuum of leadership will only be solved when our own generation steps up.

Osama Saeed

Would appreciate your thoughts on why Muslims are in the social position they are in. We can say that recent immigrant communities do suffer from poor housing, education etc, but then we have to answer why Hindus, Chinese people et al do much better. It does appear to be a peculiarly Muslim problem.
