The Sufi Muslim Council (SMC)

Some Muslim bloggers take a look at the SMC, a rival to the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), which has already the latter's ire. The bloggers all link to a new 'watch' blog, Sufi Muslim Council Exposed, which does present some compelling evidence on the origins and motives of this group.

Update: On the question of the SMC and other Muslims in the public, I found a weblog called Brother, do the right thing!. Whilst I have no qualms in exposing people who wish to turn Islam into a political party, nor with crushing extremists, one needs to be sceptical when "His Holiness" Hisham Kabbani is involved. The name also makes me laugh for, other less political, reasons. (He knows what I'm talking about.)

Update 2: Yakoub has more on the SMC and British Muslim Forum. I wish I could spend longer on this, but my wireless router is not working properly. Damn you, Belkin!

It looks like the questions over the intentions, motives and affiliations of the Sufi Muslim Council has entered the (Muslim) mainstream press. Shehla Khan, a researcher in the social sciences at the University of Manchester, writes in The Muslim News:... [Read More]

O great another Muslim group that we can add to our already very long list of groups.

It appears that Muslim organisations are getting like Asian grocery shops - theres one on every corner of every major city in the land.

O well they do say that variety is the spice of life.

Woudln't say the SMC were a "rival" to the MCB - more of a wannabe.

Sir

I would like to mention that if we were to put the First Commandment from the Ten Commandments given to Moses, and the greatest commandment according to Christ, and the kalima as it is right now amongst a billion so called Muslims, we will see clearly which of them has strayed

First the first commandment from the Ten Commandments:
THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME

And now the greatest commandment according to Jesus:
One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?" "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." (NIV, Mark 12:28-31).

Now the kalima shahada as it stands:

There is no god besides GOD and Muhammad is His Messenger

Which of these three is controversial or erroneous and has strayed, the answer is the third one. As you can see they added ‘and Muhammad is His messenger’- is should be was, which negates the whole statement, and if it remains is, it is polytheism as is, is present tense and the prophet has long died, unless he is eternal, which only God is, does it not say not to take other names with God? I am not sure something like that, but it shows it is wrong to add these words, as throughout history it has always been la illaha illallah, this addition is not found in the Quran, which teaches unity of God, our need of Him, and salvation for those who do not commit shirk, or are polytheist, uphold the righteous way and stick to the straight path, this addition is found in the Hadith books which were compiled 150 years after the Prophet had died. Nowadays, even in the house I live in, though I prayer that one day they accept to only say the true kalima, of la illaha ill Allah, rather than add the Prophet or bring him into it, which shows the idolization of him. They have a stain glass toughen window, in it it says ‘ya Muhammad’ ‘ya Allah’ in Arabic, it is hard to describe but they (my mother) beseech the Prophet in my house, I know one of the commandments is to honour your parents now, so I will prayer for them, it is the least I can do, but they would rather have me wahhabi than the faith I have chosen.
You see the logic of what I am saying, through these three extracts, the first two only talk of the unity of GOD whereas the third has an addition to that unity, I think is what I am trying to say.
The first commandment that was given to Moses on Mount Sinai was broken, when the Muhammadans chose to add ‘and Muhammad is His messenger’, with that the first commandment was broken which is ‘Thou shalt not take no other gods before ME.’ Think about it.

The kalima is la illaha illAllah, which is universal whereas if we continue with the added part, then it becomes exclusive. Remember within so called Islam we are taught Islam has a universal message, Islam means peace, and in the Prophet's final sermon it has been said he told his people that they were brothers, as long as they uphold the Unity of GOD and take no other gods before GOD, and love with all their might, all their strength, and heart the Lord is One, and to believe that there is no god besides GOD, which is corrupted and broken with this manmade addition, of proclaiming or declaring that Muhammad is His Messenger.

The only contestable part in the song Imagine by John Lennon, was when he says ‘and no religion too’, I have now overcome this, because what I realise is Islam is not a religion, in Arabic there is no word for religion, the closest you get is - ‘deen’, so they say deen al Islam, which they closely translate to mean religion of Islam, but it is not entirely true.
Second thing I realised is, by the kalima being la illaha ill Allah, there is no god besides GOD, and by removing the innovation and the polytheistic addition that the Muhammadans added on later, which I don’t have to tell you, but in case you are not aware then it is ‘and Muhammad is His messenger.’ By the kalima shahada, you create a brotherhood, which is mentioned in John Lennon’s Imagine, when he says ‘a brotherhood of man’. Remember the 3 attributes of God, Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omnipresent, and I am not sure on the 99 names of God whether they have any validity or are an innovation, yet we know and it is incontestable that the number 3 represents the 3 attributes of GOD, which even appears in the gayatra mantra, an early or ancient Sanskrit text. You cannot take one and leave the other two, or take two and leave the third, what I sometimes do is try and see it like, Hear no, See no, Speak no.
Omniscient, the all-Knowing, the Hearer
Omnipotent, the all-Powerful, the Seer
Omnipresent, the ever -present, the Guide.

What can be achieved is if we accept the kalima, as ash shadu walaa illaha ill Allah, I declare there is no god besides GOD, then we can expect what has been said in the song Imagine, which has been rated as the greatest song of all time. I wrote this poem as a response to the song Imagine

The people have many gods, who venerate
Idolize, glorify and extol men
Religion means fear of the gods
All I can say is Islam is not a religion

Say the kalima and your my brother
Be stern against the disbeliever
And gentle with the believer
Say only there is no god besides GOD and nothing more

Deen al Islam is not the same as the religion of Islam
But because there is no other word for it in English,
That is what it gets translated into

Try not to read this song too literally
When he mentions whether you can imagine there’s no heaven, think of all the time you see people living the high life, and when he says imagine no hell below us, think of all the problems and trouble the world is in, with poverty, climate change, and wars, and anarchy in Iraq, which Saddam, said ‘this is hell’. I was having trouble with the first verse of the song, but I was looking at it too literally, still think it’s a great song.

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
