But I think the belief there are other religious traditions which can have partial truths is also a Qur'anic thesis ('many prophets were sent to many nations'). So, from a Muslim point of view, we should not be surprised to find elements of what we consider truthful inside many traditions the world over.

exactly. the liberality of islam, its open links and professed relation to other monotheistic religions judaism (chosen people) christianity (salvation only through christ) and its inclusionary character (esp racially and culturally) makes it cringinly painful to see such reductive, narrow minded worldview proliferate in modern muslim mind, with terms like 'kuffar' 'infidel' thrown around.

"the reality is that some Muslims turn to violence out of insecurity, rage and furstration [and] the basic problems are social and economic"
-makes muslims seem like sub-human beasts who fly into unfathomable rages at the slightest provocation and have no ability to solve social issues in a pragmatic way.
and why use the term "muslims" how about anti-modern phenomenon of terrorism, or just criminality that has these roots etc. the discourse that western writers use must change.

Id go further to say that every religion was Islam in essence but changed over time. In investigating many religions there is some level of monothesistic worship to be found in some form at some stage. This being the centre focus of Islam.
